2002 - 2003

Dear Everybody, I am back in New York after a lifetime in Hollywood, Paris and various glittering places that aren't really, and have connected with Brian Greenman, who was deservedly our class president('50) and is now the keeper of the flame, and counseled me to sign in, I am not now nor have I ever been 'Alice' or 'Gwendy'. But I am looking for Lenny Landau(is she still with us?) and would be happy to hear from any classmates, or even those who are classless. Thank you, God Bless(I am a believer) and a Happy, Peaceful and Bushless New Year to you all. xx

Just visited your fine website for the first time in years and have a correction to make: I was a nongraduating member of the class of '56 (not '54 as you have it). Just to set the record straight.--Peter Glassgold

I just spent a very enjoyable half-hour perusing the Cherry Lawn website. I remember driving up with my parents in autumn 1968 and as soon as I saw the students with Fedoras (one was Dennis, I think?) and boys with "long hair" (fringe almost over the collar!) I said "This is the place for me!" Long live Cherry Lawn in our hearts!

Hi Everybody! I hope you approve of the new message board. Getting rid of those annoying pop-up ads was a high priority. Please feel free to let me know what you like, or don't like about the site. I'm always open to new ideas. My next big project for the site is that I'd like to have a section of photos of the campus and the buildings. If you have ANY photos of buildings, I REALLY want them!!! If you have any questions about how to submit them, please email me. Thanks, Mike

Only attended CLS for one year (1944-45) still have fond memories and remember many of my classmates. I noticed that many of you attended the 1999 reunion but unfortunately the photos do not have names. Would love to see the names on the photos at the banquet.

Last week I was up near Fordham University in the Bronx. Walking by the campus, I remembered I had gone on a class trip to see the Lovin Spoonful there. I think that was the first concert I ever attended. The scary thing is I still remember most of the songs the band played.

I went to see several other shows during my time at CLS. Donovan, at Queens College, if I remember correctly, and the Vanilla Fudge at Hunter College. But the kicker was the Door's show at the Filmore. Frank Schaefer and I somehow managed to twist our annual class trip into a rock and roll outing and the school agreed to let us go.As Rat Boyd recently reminded me, we pulled up in a yellow school bus of all things, then went in to see the band. Memory tells me they opened with "When the Music's Over" and ended with "The Unknown Soldier", but it was over thirty years ago.

How many people today can say they went to see the Doors on a class trip?

It was a more innocent age and we were lucky to be young during one of those rare periods where non-conformity was more accepted.

Would love to hear from those of you out there who were at CLS during these years. Meryl Lidsky... Where are you? My mother, who was on the faculty, Uppie to most of the kids, is still living. Perhaps the oldest Cherry Lawner around. Looking forward to hearing from you...Emily

Hi Gentlepeople,

A special thanks goes from me to both Stu Varden and Mike manners. I feel so close to all my CLS friends due to the incredible website design and updating. I'm sure this suite has become an awesome undertaking to keep it up to date. Thanks again to both of you.

I am sorry to say that despite my attending the 2003 reunion, I missed getting together with my classmate June kaplan. I will try very hard to attend earlier next year. June, if you read this e-mail, please know I send you blessings of love. I really miss you.

I also want to express my deepest thanks to Laura Schoen who somehow found me on the net. Yes, to all CLS'ers, I am alive and well.

Thank you to all at the reunion who were so kind in taking in my girlfriend, Paulette. You all made her feel like she was such a part of our distant past. She was so appreciative. We will both be attending reunion 2004.

Love to all, Chas. B. '69

Sorry most of the reunion pics weren't labled. I didn't recognize anyone but Laura Schoen. Why didn't anyone bother to take a pic of my best buddy, Phyllis Heath Randall and her husband, Irvin?

Guys, you've done a great job with the website. I am also enjoying the pics of the month. Keep up the good work.

O yes, also great seeing that nice pic of Bob Brandt '50. I remember him well. If he reads this... Special hi to you, Bob.

Anyone know the whereabouts of Dorthy Ellen (Bunny) Bobrow?

I want you all to know what a wonderful time I had at the 2003 CLS reunion. The amount of time and work that has been done to produce this yearly even is to be applauded. I enjoyed seeing the old and new faces. Jim Fergusson was a real treat. Dianne, Anne, June, Jan, Cynthia, and of course the one and only Ms. laura Schoen. I want to continue to read the updates in everyone's lives. Hope all are well. This is a great website.

Hi there CLS'ers near and far! So good to be able to communicate this way, as Ms. Laura Schoen talked me through the process just a minute ago! Thanks, Laura, and thanksto my entire Cherry Lawn family for the beautiful memories of our sweet days and fun nights at Brookside Road. Glad to finally make it to the 2003 reunion! After the 1999 reunion, I missed the next 3 years -- it was really special to camp out with you guys on the beach -- there's nothing better than seeing good old friends from our little utopian society! Much peace and love.

Hey Mike,

The website update looks terrific. Kudos! It's great to have everyone's comments at our fingertips.

I hope to see many more alumni next summer at our yearly reunion, 4th Saturday of July 2004. I've already heard from 2 first timers who plan and promise to be there with us next year.

So Ray Boyd & Neil Duskis -- the onus is on you to show up!!! Don't disappoint and maybe we'll also get to see Douglas harvey Isaccson or Jon Ames, or Frank Morabito or Nora Ellis or some of those other hard to find escapees.

Here's to you, Stuart Varden, for getting this ball rolling with the website, and to you, Mike manners, for adding some new juice.

Dear Mike,

Thanks for taking over the connection with what many of us feel is the most important period of our lives. Would you please update my email address in the 1944 section of the alumni directory?

Mike, Thanks for taking over the website. I can see you're doing a fine job already. In reading the messages, I can only smile when I read the names of our classmates. It was great to come east for the reunion a couple of years back. There are few regretys I have to moving to San Diego 26 years ago, but one is that I lost track of friends from Connecticut and new York. Stuart's creation brought it back together. So hi to Peter, Mok, Deni, Jimmy and the rest.

Hi Mike. I see you're going to be managing the CLS website as well as the reunion site. You sure have your work cut out for you, but I'm sure you'll do splendidly. This year's picnic was a real treat, what with the recorder duets by Joel and Sonya (class of '32!) and seeing jaime (Jimmy) Lembeck again, and Phil and Ben. Hope you sailed home safely.

Phil Elena writes to say that the girls dorm, the last remaining building is going to come down soon. It was hardly the prettiest building, but I'll still be sad to see it go. At least we still have the gazebo (where I had my first kiss) and the stone bridge at the lake (scene of many more) And the trees: the Ginko, the Copper Beeches, the Magnolia and Cedars. In some ways, I remember them best. I look forward to seeing the 2003 picnic pictures up on the website.

I had forgotten that I signed this guestbook 1 year ago bemoaning my inability to attend last years reunion. I must tell everyone I saw this year, I felt so reunited with people and influences that made me rediscover why I am somewhere inside slightly unique... last week was rejuvenating! I rediscovered all the positive blessings and memories and comforts that seemed so distant. The love and caring that occurred within me as a result of the influences of the people I shared this day with at times seemed overwhelming. To miss sharing the moments and intimacies of our past is an unfortunate circumstance and I encourage everyone to attend next year's reunion in order to experience fufillment that words cannot describe!

Thank you to everyone that made me remember how Cherry Lawn made my loving partners in special traits such caring human beings... beyond fondly, Jamie

I was thinking Charly Cherry was so silly and David's art was almost never silly, although he certainly could be. David was one of my best friends at CLS and one of the few that I was in touch with after leaving. I received a letter from his mother, Sylvia, after his death. We had spoken the night he died to make plans for him to visit us in R.I. when he returned home from Israel. My wife had met him and loved him as much as I did.

Just a reminder that "Charlie Cherry Lawn" was a craetion of my friend, the very talented David Anfang (CLS '71) who died way too young.

I only attended the school for one year but that year was the most enjoyable year spent in a school. If I had been able to stay I would have graduated with the class of 1957. Now living in Macau, S.A.R.  Anybody remember Mr. Smith, the english riding instructor? The horsse, Rusty, donated to the school by avid Schancupp's uncle? What was the name of the French teacher? I remember her favorite song was "Far Away Places." It was a great year in 1951

Jimmy Jenkins, where are you? You would have been in the class of '71 or '72 had you not left CLS so precipitately. Jimmy, if you'd only waited a few more days I could have told you: I WAS NOT PREGNANT!  If any of you know Jimmy's whereabouts, please pass this message along. And if anyone wants to share memories of his dirty blond hair, his motorbike, and his outtasight chipped front tooth, share them with me! Love, Margie

I don't know what path of surfing brought me to this site but it was interesting. I don't remember a soul in the photos, except for Jan Attwood. I still have the yearbook from the one year I was there - '70? But I didn't see anyone who looks like that except Jan Attwood.
