Pictured above is June Kaplan, Class of 1969, and one of her oil paintings:
The Life Guard Tower. This painting was featured on the invitation to
attend a reception for the artist, June, at a local cafe in Amagansett, Long
Island, NY where her artwork-- oil paintings & etchings, were featured from March
thru May, 2001.
June's artwork originates from a photograph taken either by herself or her
artistic partner, Barbara, and from those photographs June chooses her
medium. This piece is a particularly bright and electrifying piece. (As
with most oils, the photograph doesn't compare with the intensity & depth
of the brushstrokes of the original painting.)
June's artistic abilities also extend to drama and writing poetry. Interestingly,
June has an unsigned drawing by the late John Lennon which she obtained from Yoko
Ono.
In honor of the artist's reception, several Cherry Lawners convened in New
London, CT and ventured to the outer tip of Long Island by ferry, ferry and
ferry--not quite Montauk, but practically there. Alese Boltoch Clark (70)
and Laura Schoen (69) are the first Cherry Lawners in 32 years to meet up
with the newly located Chas B. Lerner (69) and travel together to June's
reception. [Narrative and Photo Credits: Laura Schoen, CLS'69]
